Wilbur married Anna Pinike 27 Sep 1892. Their only child, Alma (b. 4 Apr 1894) married Frank Carter and moved to Spokane, WA. Anna died shortly after the birth of Alma.

Wilbur married Martha “Doshie" Theodosia McMartin, who was born 13 Sep 1874 in Castalia, IA. She was the daughter of Daniel Angus McMartin and Julia Sophia Brush. Daniel was born 11 Oct 1832 in St. Andrews East, Argenteuil County, Ouebec, Canada. Julia was born 11 Jan 1845 in St. Lawrence Co., NY Daniel and Julia were married 18 Feb 1864 in Winneshiek Co. Martha's brothers and sisters were: Willis Chester, Frank Clifton, Effie Xelima, Ivan Burt, Elsie Luella Jessie Florence, Edith May, Elmer Earl and two infants (one a boy and one a girl) who died in infancy.

Wilbur and Martha were married 4 Dec 1906 in Castalia. They had one child, Marion Ivana (b. 9 Sep 1914). Marion Ivana married Clifford E. Martin on 30 May 1936 in Emmett, ID. They adopted one daughter, Julie Ann. Clifford died 20 Oct 1989. Marion lives in Boise, ID and keeps busy with church activities.

Julie Ann married Mr. Good. They have one child, Crystal Ann born in Boise. Julie married Miguel Lim. They live in Orlando, FL.

Wilbur and Martha were members of the Postville Methodist Church before transferring to a Methodist Church in Emmett. Wilbur belonged to the Masonic, Odd Fellows, Modern Woodmen and Eastern Star Lodges.

Wilbur died 1 Mar 1927 near Emmett, ID. Martha died 7 Mar 1963 at Nampa, ID. Both of them are buried in Emmett.

Drilling, Donald and Ramona (Murphy)

Ramona Murphy was the daughter of William and Ruby (Powers) Murphy of Ossian, IA. Ramona attended school at DeSales Catholic School in Ossian and graduated from DeSales High School. She worked for Northwestern Bell after graduation. She married Donald John Drilling 18 Jul 1958 at Ossian. Donald owned his own business and sold and repaired radios and televisions.

Donald died 18 Jul 1981. Ramona continues to live in Ossian. She is now employed by the Winneshiek Co. Sheriff's Department.

Duff, David and Catherine (Lemon)

The head of the Duff family that came from Canada to Winneshiek County was David Duff, who was born in Ontario in 1805 and died in Winneshiek County in 1880 at age 76. David was married to Catherine Lemon (ca 1805-ca 1874), the oldest daughter of Jacob Lemon and Elizabeth Potts of Norfolk County. The Lemon family traces back to Swiss Huguenot origins—the name having been LeMoigne. Members of the family were British sympathizers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania during the American Revolution. The Potts family were of German origins, and emigrated to the American colonies in the middle of the eighteenth century. They lived in Maryland prior to moving to the Long Point Settlement in 1800. David Duff’s ancestral origins are unknown at present, although one family legend would have it that the family was “Scotch”— indicating a Scottish and Irish ancestry. It is also possible, however, that the name “Duff” was merely an anglicized version of some other name of a Continental or other origin. David’s mother would appear to have been Catherine Duff, nee Richards, who remarried about 1813 or earlier and was the third wife of Jacob Potts.

David and Catherine had six children—although it is possible that there were other children who are at this time unknown. It is thought that all of the children were born in Norfolk County, possibly on the family farm of 100 acres which David is shown to have held in Woodhouse Township (now a part of the city of Nanticoke). The children were: John (1828-1874); Sarah A. (ca 1831-?); Isaac “Ike" (1833-1917); Jacob Jake" (1836-1916); Aaron (ca

1837- ?); and Mary Eliza (ca 1845-?). Hattie A.W. Duff (ca

1838- ?), daughter of James W. and Harriet Duff, may also have resided in the Duff household.

Duff, David and Catherine (Lemon) -Descendants

The oldest son of early Winneshiek County pioneers, David Duff and Catherine Lemon, was John, who was born in 1828 and died in 1874. John was a blacksmith and never married, and may have lived most of his life in his father’s household. John is said to have owned a ranch in Rhame, North Dakota, which he left to his namesake, John R. Duff—born in 1873—infant son of brother Aaron.

The second child was Sarah A. Duff, born in 1831. Sarah married Phil Husted who was born in England in 1824. Phil Husted came to the Moneek settlement in 1852.

Their third child was Isaac or "Ike,” as he was called, born 17 Oct 1833. Ike’s marriage to Emaline (“Emily" or “Emma") Knight from north of Decorah was recorded in Prairie du Chien, Crawford County, Wisconsin on 18 Nov 1862. Emaline was born in 1841 in Ontario and died in 1872 at age 31. To Ike and Emaline were born: David in 1864, who was killed when struck by lightening while family lived in Nebraska; Addie in 1867, who married Roy Morris, had no children, and resided in Sioux City, Iowa; George L. in 1869, born in Los Angeles County, California, and married Elizabeth Winkler; and William E. “Will" on 17 Mar 1870, who married Anna Huntington—originally from Friendship, Indiana—and was a long-time Ossian area resident.

Ike subsequently married Jeanette Burzell (or Brazil), born 29 Oct 1853 and who passed away on 4 May 1920. To this union was born Elsie Florence on 15 Apr 1873. On 17 Dec 1902, Elsie married George F Allen, son of George
